At The Edge Of Democracy: A pacifist’s visit to Ukraine
Lifelong pacifist and Quaker Daniel Kirkpatrick traveled to Ukraine in the Summer of 2025 as a citizen diplomat. In this talk, Kirkpatrick shares stories, images, and insights about his experiences in Ukraine. The talk contrasts the external threats to democracy Ukrainians face with the internal threats to democracy that are ascendant in the USA, with a focus on what can be done in North America to support a positive future for both countries.

For nearly 25 years Daniel spent his days directing Explorations Academy, a fully accredited high school that prepares young people to be global citizens and change agents. Daniel is one of three founders of this innovative school. He is also is a past recipient of the Willi Unsoeld Award for contributions to the field of Experiential Education, and has taught students from 4th grade through college and in eight countries. Daniel’s passion is facilitating growth and change.
